Two U.K. building societies are said to be in the early stages of merger talks. Coventry Building Society, the third-largest in the U.K. with assets of £18.4 billion ($27.67 billion), has entered into negotiations with the smaller, £3 billion ($4.51 billion) Stroud and Swindon, with a final deal expected “only…if it were to the benefit of both sets of members.”
